Welcome to School of civil and hydraulic engineering. Here is the brief introduction of the school. There are more than 180 academic and administrative staff members in the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics. Among whom one is academician of CAE and 50 are full professors and 51 are associate professors.

We offer three primary disciplines to undergraduates including Civil Engineering, Mechanics as well as Management Science and Engineering. There are two postdoctoral research stations, the Mechanics Postdoc Station and the Civil Engineering Postdoc Station. We have two authorized major doctoral and master programs (Mechanics and Civil Engineering), two authorized sub-major doctoral programs (Engineering Management and Road and Traffic Engineering) and one majormaster program (Traffic Engineering). Among them, Mechanics and Civil Engineering are key disciplines of Hubei Province and Bridge and Tunnel Engineering is key discipline of the Ministry of Construction.

In scientific research and social services, we have developed our own unique features. Our major research areas cover the following topics: vibration isolation of engineering structures, energy dissipation and active control of vibration, fatigue and fracture, engineering calculation and simulation, integrated digital construction and its application, intelligent detection and life assessment of engineering structure damage, ground improvement technology, and detection technology of stress wave, theory and practice of long-span bridge structure, as well as numerical method and virtual simulation technology in civil engineering. We have accomplished internationallyleading or partly internationally leading research achievements in areas such as complete technology of construction isolation, integrated key technologies of rail transit, integrated detection system of engineering structure damage as well as analysis and design of arch-bridge structures. Since 2001, we have won 5 second prizes of National Scientific and Technology Progress Awards, more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level technology awards as well as 7 provincial and ministerial-level teaching awards. More than 300 papersare published annually, two thirds of whichareindexed by SCI, EI or ISTP. In particular, around 60 papersare published in SCI journals each year. Each year, we secure more than 20 research projects funded by the 973 Program (Major State Basic Research Development Program of China), National Key Technology Support Program, Natural Science Foundation of China, National Doctoral Fund, National Defense Pre-study Foundation, and Provincial Fund. In addition, we have provided services in many large-scale construction projects including Three Gorges Project, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Macau Taipa Bridge, Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, Wuhan Subway and High-speed Railway Projects. The total scientific research funds exceed 50 million yuan per year.

The School of civil and hydraulic engineering has always paid great attention to international academic exchange and cooperation, creating great academic atmosphere and development space for graduate students. We have established close relations with many famous universities including University of California-Berkeley, Michigan University, Florida State University, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Kyushu University and some well-known universities in German, UK, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and so on. Furthermore, we have built scientific research cooperation relationship with the American Society of Civil Engineers and leading companies in German, Japan and other countries. Up to now, the school has successfully sponsored and undertaken many high-level academic conferences at home and abroad. Every year, we will invite more than 50 prominent domestic and overseas scholars to give lectures in our school.
