There are four undergraduate majors in the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics including Civil Engineering, Project Management, Engineering Mechanics and Traffic Engineering, with over 1700 undergraduate students and more than 1700 graduate students. The School arranges one academic staff member for each undergraduate class as the academic advisor, who provide all-around guidance for students’ study, life and career planning.

The School adopts advanced teaching materials and teaching methods and even adopts bilingual or all-English teaching in some important courses. We continuously strengthen internship and practical training, and encourage competitions for College Student’s Science and Technology Innovation Project. Outstanding students can enter research groups and participate in scientific research from early grade and some of them can acquire the exam-free recommendations to a graduate program.

Civil Engineering passed the specialized educational evaluation organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in 1997, 2003, 2008 and 2013, respectively, and Engineering Management passed the evaluation in 2005, 2010 and 2015, respectively. Transportation engineering passed the engineering education professional certification organized by the Ministry of Education in 2011 and 2014.

Engineering Mechanics is a national first-class featured major. The Engineering Mechanics Teaching team is a recognized national teaching team by the Ministry of Education. Civil Engineering major is among the first pilot majors for the National Excellent Engineer Education Plan in China. The School also built four national-level engineering practice education centers with China Construction Third Building Group, China Railway Bridge Bureau, China First Metallurgical Group and Wuhan Urban Construction Group. Both Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics are brand majors in Hubei province and Civil Engineering and Mechanics disciplines are key disciplines of Hubei Province.

The School has 1 national teaching master, 1 teaching master in Hubei province and 2 university-level teaching masters. Ten academic members won the first prizes of University Excellent Teaching Award and eight won the first prizes of Teaching Competition.

The School has 2 National Quality Courses and 7 High Quality Courses of Hubei province. Several teaching achievements won the first prize and second prize for teaching achievement in Hubei province.
