In December 2016, professor WANG Xiaoming, from School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was elected as a board member of the Fifth Council of China Sustainable Development Research Association at the 5th National Congress of China Sustainable Development Research held in Beijing. This was Professor Wang's second election as the board member. In the same month, the State Council issued the “Demonstration Zone Development Plan for the China’s Implementation Of The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation" [China State Council, 2016-69], which indicates that China's sustainable development has officially entered a stage of national implementation, and has become China's leading innovation demonstration of the United Nations’ 2030 sustainable development agenda. In Feb. 2017, Professor WANG Xiaoming was elected as a member of the core expert group of the Ministry of Science and Technology that advises the development of this demonstration zone.
Professor WANG Xiaoming’s team is one of the earliest teams to participate in the field of sustainable development in China. He has long served as a member of the National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone Guidance Committee, a core member of the expert group, and the expert group leader for the central south region (Hubei, Hunan, Henan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan six provinces). He is a member of the Steering Committee for the National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone Collaborative Innovation Strategic Alliance. He is also a leader of the UN-HABITAT Asia Pacific Sustainable Cities (SCP) and the Urban Climate Change (CCCI) Expert Group. Professor WANG served as the Chinese expert group leader for the Ministry of Science and Technology China-US Environmental Science and Technology Cooperation Committee for Green Community. He has long been engaged in sustainable urban and sustainable construction research and engineering practice since 1994, and has undertaken the completion of ten national and three international cooperation projects. He also presided over the preparation of more than ten items of "National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone Construction Plan", and made more than 40 special reports on sustainable development throughout the country a total. He served as the domestic sustainable development experts in many places, and he has made a more prominent contribution to China's sustainable development.
